My child is a multi-sport athlete, what does this mean when it comes to all-year soccer?

- While our preference would be for all players to train as much as possible with their teams throughout the whole season not only to help with both individual and collective development, but to also create a good team chemistry, we realize this may not be possible due to other sporting interests and as such we have created Full Season and Partial Season fee plans.

- We ask that you communicate proactively through TeamSnap on your availability.

My child is a multi-sport athlete and won’t be able to participate the entire season, do I still pay the full amount listed?

  • -  No, we have a partial season fee structure available for the 2023-2024 season. See Competitive Program and Fees document for more details.

  • -  Remember the Spurs SC is a competitive soccer program and as such, training time with your team will provide the best opportunities for individual growth and development.

  • -  Upon registration for a partial season, each player will be asked to attend a minimum of 2 evaluations/trainings to determine their skill level. After the 2 evaluations/trainings, the coach of the team will determine if there is a position available

    What does ‘professional coach’ mean?

- All of our competitive head coaches are licensed. This means they went through an extensive coach education course to receive a specific license. We pride ourselves on continuing education for our coaches to be up to date with how U.S. Soccer and the United Soccer Coaches Player Development Philosophy is structured, as well as their expectations.

What age group does my child play in?

  • -  Age groups are split up by birth year. In order to find out your child’s age group, you take the year the season ends, and subtract the year your child was born.

  • -  For example: In the 2019-2020 season, if your child was born in 2006, you subtract

    2006 from 2020. 2020 – 2006 = 14, so your child is a U14. -

Where would we travel for tournaments?

  • -  We work to offer tournaments that enhance the player experience finding appropriate competition, but also work to offer more local events to save on cost.

  • -  Most of our teams travel as a club to Minneapolis/St. Paul, Fargo, Grand Forks, Aberdeen, Omaha, Rapid City, Mitchell, Sioux Falls. Not all listed are attended each year.

  • -  Some of our older teams travel to more distant events – these may be in Kansas City, Des Moines, etc.

  • -  We also host 4 local tournaments in Brookings as part of our home tournament options – 1 outdoor (Summer) and 3 indoor (U10 Festival, U11+ Girls, U11+ Boys).

Are tournament fees included in our registration?

  • -  No, each individual tournament has a specific fee associated based on tournament registration fee, coaching, travel cost, etc.

  • -  Most of the events will cost $75

  • -  Some of the more distant or premiere events will have additional costs and calculated

    per event.

How often would my age group/team practice?

  • -  We recommend 2-3 practices per week to be held by each age group/team.

right away or joining the group to train in order to work on their skill development.

What is a team manager?

  • -  A team manager is responsible for running the off-field operations of the team. This usually includes managing the team’s share site (Teamsnap), registering teams for tournaments, checking teams in for tournaments, communicating logistics to the team. The team manager is a parent who does this as a volunteer.

  • -  The team manager is not responsible for questions/issues with the team. The first person of contact is the coach, then the Director of Coaching, then the Board of Directors (VP Competitive) if not satisfied with outcome.

How should I expect communication to come to me?

  • -  TeamSnap is our primary mode of communication.

  • -  TeamSnap can be accessed through an app or their website.

  • -  Please make sure when you receive an email invite to join your teams. After accepting, you will gain access to your calendar and start receiving communication. Your manager and coach contact info can also be found in the ‘Roster’ section. Your schedule is found in the ‘Schedule’ section.

  • -  Please be diligent in marking your availability for all training and events!

How many years will we have the same coach?

- Coaches will typically be with their age group for an average of 2 years.

Will I be required to volunteer as a parent?

  • -  Every family is required to earn volunteer points. There are many opportunities to volunteer throughout the season. A more detailed description of deposit amount and positions can be found on our website. It is important to read and understand before signing this form.

  • -  First time U9 or U10 families will only be required to work 50% of volunteer points. This is an attempt to ease our new families into competitive soccer.

  • -  A check and the volunteer points agreement must be submitted to your team manager before your athlete can participate in his/her first training session.

Will I be required to purchase a uniform kit?

  • -  Yes, all players must purchase a kit.

  • -  The kit will include the following:

o Home and Away Competition top @ 1 ea.

    o Short@1
o Home and Away Sock @ 1 ea. (2 pair)
    o Practice Jersey @ 2

  • -  The cost of the kit will be $130

  • -  Thank you to our uniform sponsor Bel Brands. Because of their support, this price of

    $130 reflects a savings of roughly $45.

How many seasons will the uniform be used?

  • -  Uniform style cycles are 2 seasons.

  • -  This may seem short, but it is common for players to need to change sizes after two

years. This also gives players opportunity to be in something new and fresh every

    two years.

  • -  Our next uniform cycle will start the 2023-2024 season.

Will my player have a chance to try on the uniform to determine the correct size?

  • -  Yes, our uniform distributor Goal Kick Soccer will come to Brookings and host a fitting day.

  • -  Your player will try on uniforms at this event to establish the correct size and be provided instructions on how to order the kit on their website.

  • -  The kit will be delivered directly to the address you provide.

  • -  If you are unable to attend the try-on day – there will be uniforms left with the club to

try at a later date. Please contact club to inquire – but remember there is a deadline to have the kit order to guarantee it is delivered on time.

If I have a player in High School, do I still need to order my kit by the same deadline as the younger players?

- Yes, uniforms take 8-10 weeks to receive after they are ordered. If you wait until after your HS season, you wouldn’t receive your kit on time for the first events.
